What are the benefits of the new Dynamics 365 Unified Interface?
One of the biggest changes in the Dynamics 365 Unified Interface is the expansion of the sitemap. This expansion makes it far easier for users to quickly find the functions they need.
Better use of Space and Improved Performance
Entity forms have less white space and can accommodate more fields and data. The Unified Interface also improves performance by loading data more quickly.
New visual features enable you to display charts that act as filters on the entire dashboard. Users can easily interpret data and list their preferred views before drilling down further.
Business Card Scanner
The business card scan feature allows users to quickly capture information from a business card into Dynamics 365. Users can access the business card scanner by navigating to the Sales Hub app and using the quick create a form to create a new contact or lead. The business card scanner sits on top of the quick create forms for leads and contacts, but administrators can change the location by editing the quick create form.
Documents visible in for contact, opportunity, lead and account main forms
If your Dynamics 365 instance has the SharePoint integration enabled, this is where the SharePoint library can be accessed without having to navigate to Related>Documents from within a record. This feature will be automatically enabled.
Display Lead Notes & Activities in Opportunity Record
This feature will show notes/attachments from the originating lead displayed in the timeline of the qualifying opportunity record. This feature will be automatically enabled.
Generate PDF from Word Template
Now, enable this functionality for these entities in Dynamics 365 Unified Interface as well: Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Sales Order and Invoice
Users can configure word templates to map the data fields and child records. The PDF generation allows users to create a PDF file vs a word document.
Quick Create Form: Save & Create New
Users now have the ability to save and create a new record from within a quick create form. Previously, users only had the option to save and close a record created by using quick create forms. If they wanted to create another record, they would have to click the + button again to add another record. Now, when a record is created using the quick create form, users can click on the down arrow icon next to the ‘Save and Close’ button which will then display the Save & Create new option.
DYNAMICS 365 UNIFIED INTERFACE: DEPRECATED FEATURES
Task flows are deprecated – They are used to create a step-by-step data entry form for common tasks, such as after-meeting follow-ups.
Service Scheduling – Designed for customer service scenarios, this feature pre-dated the release of Dynamics 365 Field Service. It has since been replaced with Universal Resource Scheduling in the new UI to handle resource scheduling for any service activity.
Standard SLAs – This is another feature designed for customer service, the original Service Level Agreement has been replaced by ‘enhanced’ SLAs. These use separate entities and offer extended capabilities including the option to pause on-hold cases for a time while awaiting a customer response.
Process Dialogs – Infographics are visual representations of data, making complex information easier to share and digest. When making your own, simply organize your images, charts, and text, and cite your sources.
Contracts, Contract Line Items, and Contract Templates entities are deprecated
Mail Merge – Mail merge from previous versions is deprecated. This includes the mail-merge Word add-in, as well as mail-merge templates (Settings>, Templates>Mail Merge Templates).
Announcements are deprecated – Announcements (Settings>Administration>Announcements) are deprecated and will be removed in a future major release of Dynamics 365.
Some client APIs – The following client APIs are deprecated to reorganize the Xrm client API object model. This will help them better align with the need of using the same client scripts without having to change them based on the context or the client (web client or the new Unified Interface) where they run.
Project Service Finder app – The legacy application will be supported for associated legacy Project Service Automation releases, in accordance with Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy. The functionality available through this app will be available in a future release of Dynamics 365 in the Dynamics 365 for Project Service Automation application.
Relationship Roles are deprecated – Relationship Roles (Settings>Business Management>Relationship Roles) are deprecated and will be removed in a future major release of Dynamics 365. This feature is replaced by Connection Roles.
Silverlight (XAP) web resource – The Silverlight (XAP) web resource is deprecated on the web client and is not supported on the Unified Interface. Instead of Silverlight web resources, you must use custom controls created using the HTML web resources with HTML5 to create UI components to visualize and interact with data.
Legacy process-related attributes in entities – The legacy process-related attributes (such as StageId, and TraversedPath) on entities enabled for business process flows are now deprecated.
EntityMetadata. IsInteractionCentricEnabled property – All entities supported in the Unified Interface are now enabled for the interactive experience in the new Customer Service Hub app.
